Is it Time for a Website Redesign?

If you manage a website, you’re probably constantly debating whether it’s time for a complete makeover of your site’s layout. Here are some things to think about:

Are you observing a redesign solely for the purpose of it? If you replied yes to that question, now is not the time to maintain your website. Always keep in mind that a design has a specific purpose. If you’re debating whether or not to redesign your website, keep in mind that your present design may serve a purpose you’re unaware of. If you remodel, you’ll lose that feature.

If, on the other hand, your website has been the same design since 1990, it may be time for a rebuild.  The last thing you want to happen to your website is for users to leave it without even looking at the content because the design is outdated. If this is your situation, consider the following considerations before embarking on a redesign.

It’s like having plastic surgery on your website when you redesign it. Your website loses its current identity (for better or worse), and your frequent visitors may not immediately recognise your new design. You run the risk of losing them simply because they thought they were on the incorrect page. As a result, it’s critical that you keep a distinguishing element from your previous design. Perhaps it’s your site’s logo; perhaps it’s the same text style for your site’s title.

Put a poll on your site to let your visitors do the talking if you want to be safe. Give it to them if they believe a new look for the website is necessary.
